The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu headed by Rev. Fr. Aladdin P. Luzon, OSA successfully conducted a pilgrim visit of the Santo Niño image to the Diocese of Maasin in Southern Leyte on December 17 – 18, 2019.
Volunteers from Cebu did a pilgrim visit to the Immaculate Conception in Hilongos, Pope Paul VI Minor Seminary, Bishop’s Residence, Sunken Garden Capitol Grounds and Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion in Maasin City, and Pope John II Parish in San Juan.
A welcome mass was held at the Immaculate Conception Parish followed by a motorcade heading to the Bishop’s Residence and Pope Paul VI Minor Seminary. A procession to the Sunken Garden Capitol Grounds was also held on the day. Devotees and parishioners venerated the miraculous image of Santo Niño.
A major pilgrimage highlight is a mass in celebration of the first baptism that took place in Limasawa in 1521. An estimated 8,000 people attended the mass on December 17.
The team was warmly welcomed by the Diocese of Maasin under the local ordinary Most Rev. Precioso D. Cantillas, SDB, DD.
